It is approximately 5 kilometers north-west of Geelong`s central business district and is bordered by the suburbs of Bell Park, Herne Hill, and Hamlyn Heights. The area of Bell Post Hill was originally inhabited by the Wathaurong Indigenous people before European settlement began in the 1830s. The suburb was named after a hill that was used as a bell post to signal the arrival of ships in Corio Bay. Bell Post Hill began to develop in the mid-20th century, with residential and commercial areas established to cater to the growing population.
