Corio is a suburb located in the northern part of the city of Geelong, in the state of Victoria, Australia. It is situated approximately 7 kilometers north of Geelong`s central business district and is bordered by the suburbs of Lara, Norlane, Bell Post Hill, and North Geelong. Corio is predominantly residential, with some commercial and industrial areas located throughout the suburb.
Corio was originally inhabited by the Wathaurong Indigenous people before European settlement in the 1830s. The suburb was named after Corio Bay, which was named by the explorer Matthew Flinders in 1802. Corio was used for farming and grazing in the early years and later became a hub for manufacturing and industry.
There are several attractions in the Corio, including the You Yangs Regional Park, which offers hiking, mountain biking, and scenic views.
