Thomson is a suburb in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It is located approximately 5 kilometers east of the Geelong city center and is bordered by the suburbs of East Geelong, Newcomb, and Whittington. The Barwon River runs along the southern boundary of the suburb, providing scenic walking and cycling tracks. Thomson is primarily a residential area with a mix of older homes and newer developments.
Thomson was named after Scottish settler James Thomson who purchased land in the area in 1849. Initially, the land was used for farming and grazing, but with the growth of nearby Geelong, the area became more urbanized. Thomson's development as a suburb began in the 1950s and continued through to the 1970s. Today, it is a predominantly residential suburb, with a mix of older and newer homes.
